These were chambered in Germany’s alternate standard calibre 7.65mm. In 1941, Nazi Germany negotiated a contract for 50,000 37M pistols for use by the Luftwaffe. The barrel can be quickly removed from the frame without taking off the slide by turning it anti-clockwise.įemaru 29M with cocking grips pinned to the rear of the slide ( source) The pistol used 4 lugs to attach the barrel to the frame - similar to some of John Browning’s pistols for example the FN Browning 1910. The principal change between the 29M and the 37M being the abandoning of cocking grips on the rear of the slide for conventional groves. The Model 1929 in turn evolved from the earlier Frommer ‘Lilliput’. The pistol evolved from the earlier Model 1929 (see below) which was more expensive to produce. Original Hungarian models were chambered in 9mm Short (.380 ACP) and used a simple blowback action. It entered service with the Hungarian Army in 1937, a year after Frommer’s death. The Femaru 37M is a development of Rudolf Frommer’s earlier pistol designs made by Fémáru, Fegyver és Gépgyár (FEG).
